In Youlgreave, einem Dorf im Peak District in England, wurde im Oktober ein Gemeinschaftsmosaik aus kleinen Rondellen von ca. 20 cm Durchmesser installiert. Die BAMM (British Association for Modern Mosaic) hat Mosaizisten dazu aufgerufen, ein Mosaik mit dem Thema „Natur im Peak District“, d.h. Flora und Fauna des Nationalparks, zu erstellen.

Youlgrave ist ein Dorf in Derbyshire, England, im Süden des Peak Districts.
Der Peak District wurde 1951 zum Nationalpark ernannt und umfasst eine Fläche von ca. 1.440km².

Im nördlichen Bereich ist die Landschaft geprägt von Mooren und Hügeln, im südlichen Teil dominieren Schafweiden und kleine Dörfer.

Die insgesamt 35 Mosaike wurden am 8. Oktober an der Youlgrave Village Hall, einem Veranstaltungsort im Zentrum von Youlgraeve, angebracht.

A Collaborative Mosaic for Youlgreave

In Youlgreave, a village in the Peak District in England, a community mosaic made of small roundels of about 20 cm in diameter will be installed in October.

The BAMM (British Association for Modern Mosaic) called on mosaicists to create a mosaic with the theme „Nature in the Peak District“, i.e. flora and fauna of the National Park.

„We need you to make a small roundel – 20cm diameter – on mesh, with the theme of all things nature in the Peak District. That could include anything from grasses and flowers to butterflies and birds. The roundels can be simple or complex – all are valid and welcome.“

In the northern area, the landscape is characterised by moors and hills, while sheep pastures and small villages dominate the southern part.

For the community mosaic I made a butterfly that is common in the Peak District: Green Hairstreak (Callophrys rubi).
